NATURAL HAIRED BLACK LADIES - what can i use for my natural hair that will keep it manageable?
DON'T DO IT GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!
check out my pic at myspace.com/03brownie03 and you will see that you don't have to perm it.
I straighten my hair with a ceramic tile hair straightener. Metal is actually bad for your hair. The ceramic brings out the natural oils from within. While I straighten it, I spray the wrapping/setting lotion on it. If that's not available, then coat it lightly with grease and then run the straightener over it.
Wrap your hair every night--no slacking.
If that doesn't work, go to your local African American beauty salon and ask for a wash and a straighten. Have someone you trust do your hair.
It's gonna take alot of practice to get it right if you just started but keep the faith. There are lots of methods to keep your hair managable, I hope my method helps you.

I wash my hair once a week and I always do a hot oil treatment with jojoba oil (It comes in a bottle at Sally's) It adds extra moisture to my hair which comes in handy when I blow dry.
I used to comb out my hair with Motions wrapping lotion but I switched to Carol's Daughter leave in conditioner because my hair was much more soft after all the heat. After combing it out I let my hair air dry for up to 30 minutes and then I blow dry it according to how I part it. When Blowdrying I use a heat shield by Tressemme to further protect it.
I use a CHI straightening iron which works the best of anything I've ever tried. I use their Shine Infusion and Silk Infusion products (lightly) to add a finish. My hair has never looked better since I got the CHI and I never have to put heat on it more than once a week, even in the humidity.
Good luck and don't get a perm if you don't have to!!!

I'm also natural (only 3 mths now). I did the big chop about 2 wks ago and I'm adjusting to my new duo. I used Wild hair grow oil while transitioning and it made my hair pretty soft. I recently bought Baka Natural-Laxer, it's made of all natural ingredients. I haven't used it yet but it suppose to make the hair more manageable. It will not straighten your hair only soften your curl. I also bought a curl polmade/gel from the same company. It makes my hair pretty soft and slightly defines my curls. I think it's a good moisturizer but I'm going to buy Paul Mitchell's polmade to give my hair more curl definition. Check out Motowngirl.com for natural hair tips.

I to am a sister embracing my natural beauty...
I have been all the way natural for almost 3 year now and I love it! Don't get me wrong there are days were I feel the same as you. I struggle with my napps, wanting my hair in those stright styles and go through my faze were I wanna slap a perm on it. DON'T DO IT!!! If you want your hair stright, get some braids or get a weave sewn in. For cute natural looks use Fantasia IC gel with Sparkle Lites this stuff is awesome for my afro puffs and twists or wash and go looks, check out my myspace.com/nappturalgurl too...
