If your hair is naturally curly/wavy, I think it looks even better during the summer.

I don't straighten my hair, but I put in some jojoba oil, enough to tame the frizzies. A little bit goes a long way.

As for straightening hair, that's reserved for special occassions only.

I have natural hair and I hot comb my hair every summer. My hair dresser does a wonderful job using a flat iron. First she uses it to get it thin in large sections, then she uses it to straighten it in smaller section. Then she uses a flat iron, not the one you plug in the real stuff, and she gets out all the frizziness. When she curls it with a curling iron, not the type you plug in, it stays the longest. I make sure I put rollers in every night and keep it moist with oil sheen. When she leaves it straight, I wrap my hair every night and tie it down with a silk scarf. The curls usually last a week and a half, the wrap usually last about the same. I get it done every 2 weeks. By doing this it makes sure that the straighten look last longer. I also try not to sweat and keep myself cool. Hope this helps.

I also like to switch between straight, curly, natural afro, and braids. By keeping it natural it helps maintain the thickness of my hair and keeps it healthy.
